G7 SUMMIT IN TAORMINA

On the occasion of the G7 Summit in Taormina (26-27 May 2017) controls at the internal borders of the Schengen Area will be temporarily reactivated at the Italian terrestrial, aerial and maritime borders. The suspension of the free-movement ordinary regime within the Schengen Area will be applied according to Art. 25 of Schengen Borders Code (Regulation (EU) 2016/399) and in line with the practice applied in similar events. The reactivation will be in place from 10 May 2017, 00:00 hours to 30 May 2017, 24:00 hours and could have a considerable impact on travel times for third states citizens entering the Schengen Area from another member state and then wishing to enter Italy.

In this regard, please note that citizens of third states countries holding a valid visa for a single entry in the Schengen area/VSU (Uniform Schengen Visa), with the entry stamp in the Schengen area already put on their passport, going to Italy from a Member State of the EU shall be considered having a valid document to enter Italy – provided that their visa is still valid.
